The Movement condemns Yerevan’s refusal to evacuate Armenians from Syria

March 11, 2025

The “Ashkharazhokhov” Pan-Armenian Movement condemns the refusal of the Armenian government to evacuate Armenians and other Christian communities from Syria, who are being subjected to genocide in the provinces of Latakia, Tartus, Hama, and Homs.

We regard Yerevan’s passivity as criminal negligence, which in fact constitutes betrayal of our fellow believers and blood brothers.

“The genocide of Christians and Alawites in Syria has been ongoing since March 6, 2025. Why is official Yerevan still silent? Why hasn’t there been a single condemnation of the mass massacre carried out by the interim government in Damascus, now led by pro-turkish terrorists?

We at Ashkharazhokhov denounce the disgraceful negligence and inaction of the Armenian government, which remains silent regarding the innocent victims among the peaceful Christian population of Syria. The Armenians of Cilicia are the indigenous people and rightful heirs of their land. Today, their rights and freedoms are being trampled by pro-turkish gangs, while Yerevan remains cowardly silent.

Ashkharazhokhov will never accept such a shameful reality. The guilty must be held accountable!”, said “Ashkharazhokhov” founder Sarkis Tsaturyan.

On March 10, the Office of the Chief Commissioner for Diaspora Affairs of Armenia rejected Ashkharazhokhov’s demand to evacuate Armenians from Syria, calling it currently impossible. This was stated by the office’s press secretary Nelly Gulyan in an interview with Armenpress.

According to her, due to security conditions, evacuation is simply not possible at the moment, and local Armenians are currently not raising this issue.

“If the situation calms down and our compatriots express a desire to evacuate, we will do everything we can to help them through joint efforts”, Gulyan noted.

In other words, the Armenian authorities are waiting for the mass slaughter in Syria to end and the “situation to calm down” before taking any action in response to the killings.

Moreover, Yerevan claims that Syrian Armenians are not raising this issue. This claim is an attempt by the authorities to escape responsibility for their own inaction.

“Ashkharazhokhov” believes that the inaction of the Armenian government amid the mass slaughter in Syria makes it a passive accomplice to this war crime.
